Mary J. Blige tours through fall with Jazmine Sullivan, Miguel
One of R&B's leading ladies will be hitting the U.S. tour circuit this fall, and she'll be taking a couple up-and-coming acts with her.

Mary J. Blige has plans for a one-month outing that will set her on the road with an October 1 performance at the BayFest music festival in Mobile, AL, before her tour officially launches October 2 at Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA.

Public ticket sales have already started for select dates of the tour, and others are yet to be announced. At least one public onsale starts this week -- tickets will become available on September 3 at the Fox Theatre in Mashantucket, CT.

Tickets to the Mashantucket concert range in price from $50 to $75, according to Ticketmaster.com. Elsewhere, ticket prices vary widely; from the $65 to $165 range for Blige's New York City show to the more standard $40 to $100 spread of the tour's smaller markets.

Joining Blige on the road are the chart-climbing powerhouse Jazmine Sullivan and soon-to-debut singer Miguel. The former artist recently had her single "Bust Your Windows" featured on the popular Fox series "Glee," and the latter artist has a debut album scheduled for release in February 2011. Veteran pop-soul singer El DeBarge will also appear as a special guest on the tour's billing.

Before Blige begins the main leg of her headlining tour, she'll perform a couple scattered sets on the West Coast this month. The R&B songstress has engagements inked for September 5 at Fantasy Springs in Indio, CA, and September 6 at the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, WA.

Mary J. Blige Biography
Mary J. Blige was first signed to label Uptown Records in 1989 after CEO Andre Harrell heard a recording she had made in a mall. Blige was initially placed as a backup singer with several other artists prior to her debut album. Mary J. Blige's debut album, What's the 411, was released in July 1992 and peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, #6 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and #1 on the Top Hip Hop/R&B albums chart. The album spun off several singles, including number one hits "You Remind Me" and "Real Love."

Blige based most of the material on her personal life. The album was eventually certified 3x platinum, spun off four singles, and two album tracks received heavy radio play. Blige's third album, Share My World, was released in April 1997 and is Blige's most commercially successful album to date. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and had been certified as quadruple platinum. It spun off five singles and the #1 soundtrack song "Not Gon' Cry." This album was notably more lighthearted and positive than the previous album, during which Blige had been dealing with substance abuse and depression.

Mary J. Blige's fourth album, Mary, was released in August 1999. The album again had a different tone: a more earthy and adult contemporary-oriented sound than the hip-hop Blige was known for. The album included several guest stars, including Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Lauryn Hill, and Eric Clapton. Although the album was certified double platinum, it did not sell as well as Blige's previous albums. ... read more
